This time lapse video shows the disassembly of a Manitowoc 999 crawler crane at a Kiewit construction site in Miami, Florida. The video was created using thousands of still frames from a Nikon DSLR camera. During the process, the camera angle and position had to be changed several times. Design215 photographer, Robert Giordano, was on site to move the camera and select the best angles as necessary.
The original footage is full 1920 x 1080 HD. The crane is being disassembled in order to be transported to a job site in another state. Notice how many flatbed trailer trucks it takes to move this enormous crane. Its difficult to imagine how heavy each part of this crane is. The yellow, rectangular blocks are the 10 upper counterweights. 5 of them are stacked on each side of the crane body. Each counterweight weighs 17,500 pounds! Each crawler assembly weighs 43,000 pounds! The final, bare crane body with all of the other components removed is still 87,500 pounds!
